Pool Bag Essentials

Now that our family is on our fifth summer here in Texas, the importance of a highly-functional, durable, easy pool bag and system for corralling all the pool things is high on my list. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I take the time to pack the pool bag (or any bag for that matter) and then someone riffles through it, leaving it a mess of everything all mixed together.
Especially this summer, since I have Emilia who I cannot take my eye of off for one second at the pool, the need to be able to easily find what I’m looking for in one fell swoop is critical. Whether it’s sunscreen, Deacon’s goggles, or a safe place to put Al’s wallet, every one needs a no-fail way to find their stuff (without asking me 1,000 questions while doing so).
Enter, the Trio Pack bag. I’m not sure how I discovered this small business a few years ago, but I used these bags as favors for my sister’s Bachelorette party last summer and they were such a hit. I ordered more to use for the pool bag this summer. Each of us has a bag with our name in it to put in whatever we need. If Deacon wants his goggles, dive sticks, tiny Mario figurine, he can have it all in his bag. (Bonus points for it also being small enough that if it cannot fit in the bag, it cannot come with us.) Al is always concerned about a place to put his glasses, phone, and wallet where they won’t get wet from other people digging through the bag, so even he gets a cute name bag. Emilia’s has swim diapers, a back-up hat, and sunglasses. Mine usually has extra hair ties, spf lip balm, and my car keys so they don’t get wet. Sunscreen gets its own bag and has our lotion, spray, and face stick. I love that I can reach in quickly and grab the sunscreen bag and throw it in my purse if we’re off to picnic or play outside. Who knew monogramming wasn’t just for fun, but function! See y’all, I have a method to my madness!

These are the MEDIUM FLAT RECTANGLE size, but there are many other sizes. You can pick from several fabric colors and coordinating font colors and styles. It’s so fun to create something unique. I plan to use these not just this summer but also for my “office” (aka my car) during the year when I go from school drop off to toddler music class to working at a coffee shop, etc. These make wonderful gifts too!

And let’s talk for a moment about the actual POOL BAG. Ya’ll this is something about which I feel very strongly. SLOUCHY BAGS ARE NOT HELPFUL. Bags that droop our slouch on top of themselves drive me crazy. I want an upright bag that I can easily see into. And for the pool when it is often left on the wet pool deck, it is important that it is water proof. For the beach, I need to be able to hose off sand and/or melted ice cream. I was certain I’d never find what I needed and would be better off carrying a plastic laundry hamper to the pool until my mom gifted me a BOGG BAG for Mother’s Day last year. It’s my pool-bag dreams come true! I have the large size which holds a ton! The only downside to the Bogg Bag, is that I’m not the only one who feels that they are the ultimate pool bag. They’re often out of stock (and right now, due to COVID a lot of their stock is stuck overseas). Other must-have items: beach towels (I’m about to order these microfiber ones because dang, wet towels are heavy. The kid’s name towels are from here, but I also love these monogram ones), sun glasses, sunscreen (only stuff I use!), spf tinted lip balm, straw visor, pool toys, and a wet dry bag.
